What Animals Can Acupuncture Be Utilized For?
You can utilize acupuncture in dogs and cats, horses, cattle, and exotic pets, but I focus specifically on dogs and cats at this location.
What Does Acupuncture Focus On?
Acupuncture focuses on neuromodulation, which is a fancy way of saying it stimulates the nervous system.
In Which Patients Do You Find Acupuncture Most Beneficial?
I find that acupuncture is of most benefit in my dog and cat patients with chronic pain from arthritis or post-surgical pain, or patients that may be experiencing neurologic issues such as intervertebral disc disease.
Can Acupuncture Be Used for Other Conditions?
Yes, acupuncture can also be used for seizure patients, anxiety, and endocrine disorders.
How Do You Use Acupuncture in Your Treatment Plans?
I tend to treat it as an additional medication tool in my toolbox, so I combine it with our more traditional drugs to try and help lower the amount of medication I need for those patients because a lot of our older dogs and cats often have liver or kidney issues.
